The Model 443 Video Peak Store and Video Peak Value Detector will store a new incoming pixel if it is brighter
than the corresponding pixel already stored in frame memory. Hence, it stores the brightest aspects over time
of scene in front of a video camera. The Peak Store capability is ideal for capturing lightning flashes occuring
over seconds or days, or showing the track of a bright object as it's moved over a dark background.
The Video Peak Store & Video Peak Value Detector can also be set to store a new incoming pixel if it is darker
than the corresponding pixel already stored in frame memory. In this mode, it stores the darkest aspects over
time of a scene in front of a video camera. The Dark-Peak Store capability is ideal for showing the track of a
dark object as it's moved over a bright background, such as an ant on a sidewalk or a bird in the sky.
A Decay function can be activated to cause previously captured peak values to fade or decay to current-input
values over an adjustable period of time. In this mode, a lightning strike would be instantly captured and then
slowly fade away until only the background scene is again present in the picture. The trails of tracked objects
would fade behind them as they moved. The decay time is adjustable in steps of powers of two from 2 to 32768
frames (about 1/15 to 1092 seconds for NTSC video).
