Video Sync Separator,
Sync Stripper, Sync Generator        315 Series
The Model 315 Video Sync Separator, Video Sync Stripper, Video Sync Generator substitute can derive or extract
sync pulses from a video signal. The unit can serve as a substitute for a Video Sync Generator. The unit can
extract or strip composite sync, vertical sync, field ID, back porch, and horizontal sync signals from a
composite video input. The Video Sync Separator, Video Sync Stripper, is a cost-effective alternative to a
genlockable video sync generator. It can be used to synchronize video equipment requiring -4 volt or +5 volt
synchronization pulses to other video equipment not providing such pulses.
Four versions of the Video Sync Separator, Video Sync Stripper, Video Sync Generator substitute are available.
The 315E provides negative-going 0 to -4 Volt vertical, horizontal, and composite video sync pulses through BNC
connectors. The 315T provides positive-going 0 to +5 Volt composite sync, vertical, horizontal, field ID, and
back porch pulses through a female DB-9 connector. The 315TE provides both sets of pulses. The 315TN provides
the same pulses as the 315T but negative-going.
The loop-through input with two connectors allows the Model 315 Video Sync Separator, Video Sync Stripper, Video
Sync Generator substitute to be connected in between a video source and destination. For instance, a camera can
be connected to one of the Model 315's input connectors and a monitor to the other. In this way, the video image
can be observed directly as it comes from the camera via the Model 315's loop-through input, while other video
equipment is genlocked to the camera by means of the Model 315.
Power input requirements are 9 VAC at about 200 mA. An AC adapter is included. The adapter is UL listed for
safety and isolates the Model 315 from ground in order to avoid interference inducing ground-loops.
Applications
Converting an RGB Signal to RGBS
RGB Video frequently includes composite sync in the Green channel, called "Sync on Green". If you need RGBS,
where the sync signal is carried on a forth cable, the Model 315E Video Sync Separator or Sync Stripper can help.
Connect the Green signal to one of the 315E's input connectors and its original destination to the other input
connector. The 315E will provide Composite Sync, Horizontal Drive, and Vertical Drive at its outputs!
